Climbing to 25,000 feet in the early morning, I followed airway W-76, which in turn paralleled the snaking Mekong River off our right side, as we headed south. The Mekong begins its journey from the Tibetan Plateau and flows through China , Burma , Laos , Thailand , Cambodia , and Vietnam , before emptying into the South China Sea.
